The retirement plan and administrative group of Hackett & Co. in South Burlington has merged with Future Planning Associates Inc. of Williston. The merged company, with a combined staff of 20 specialists, will operate as Future Planning Associates Inc. under the leadership of Suzanne Stewart, chairwoman, and Luther F. Hackett, vice chairman. Other directors of the merged company are Jane Emmons, Marilyn Jae Lehto and Loretta Wood of Future Planning Associates and Patty Barry, Erin Helmken and Daryl Straw from Hackett & Co. Future Planning expanded its quarters at 600 Blair Park in Williston to accommodate the merger.

Attorneys Debra R. Schoenberg and John H. Marshall of Schoenberg & Associates have reached an agreement with Downs Rachlin Martin PLLC to incorporate their Burlington family law practice within DRM, the state's largest law firm. The merger adds the practice of matrimonial and family law to the legal services provided by DRM.

Mike Williams of Kountry Kart Deli sold Daily News Café in the UBS office building in South Burlington to Jake Tran. Dennis Berger of Vermont Business Brokers was the listing and selling broker.

PDI Creative Communications, a full-service marketing and design agency in Burlington, was acquired by Peter Kriff, the agency's creative director since early 2002. Kriff is now president and creative director. The company was formed in 1988 by Richard Maggiani under the name Page Designs Inc.

Westaff, a Burlington provider of staffing services, announced the acquisition of the Essex Junction–based Synergy Staffing. In addition to 40 new clients, Westaff gained 60 employees with the acquisition. Westaff employs about 225 people full time in Chittenden County and more than 375 statewide, serving 250 local clients.

Charlie Pughe, president of Redstone Construction, announced the completion of a 38,000-square-foot facility for FedEx Ground/Home Delivery at 322 Leroy Road in Williston. The facility features 10 exterior loading docks, 35 interior truck/van loading positions and 3,000 square feet of support office space. Expansion to 59,000 square feet is planned. All operations for the company have moved to the new property. Scott + Partners Architects of Essex designed the facility; Krebs & Lansing Consulting Engineers Inc. of Colchester were the civil engineers.

Rick Harrison and Greg Dirmaier of J.L. Davis Realty were the listing brokers for Chimney Corners Corp. They also assisted the buyer, Allen Brook Development Inc., in the sale of a commercial investment property at 90 and 94 Harvest Lane in Williston. The complex consists of a 47,142-square-foot retail, warehouse and office building and a 5,912-square-foot office building, on 9.6 acres. Tenants are Hertz Equipment Rental, Champion Jogbra, American Tax & Bookkeeping and Fairway Estates Development Corp.

John Beal of Vermont Business Brokers was the listing broker for the sale of Marie Moore's Triple M Bayside Deli in Colchester to Phuong Lam. Bill Workman of Century 21 assisted in the transaction.

Aaron and Deb Millon have sold the Richmond Corner Market on East Main Street to Michael Comeau. Comeau also has an option to buy the real estate from the Millons. Greg Dirmaier and Rick Harrison of J.L. The property consists of a 6,430-square-foot retail building and a 4,446-square-foot warehouse on 2.75 acres. Tenants include Fox Marine and Sheppard & Carrier Construction.

Duncan Harris of Redstone was the listing and leasing broker representing the landlord in the leasing of 9,300 square feet of warehouse space at 5 Chad Lane, Williston, to Direct Tech, an affiliate of Direct TV.

Patrick and Kelli Purcell leased retail space at the former Courtyard Collection, 171 St. Paul St., Burlington, from Grand View Properties. The Purcells will open their custom clothing business together with an artisans' gallery there. Bill Kiendl of V/T Commercial assisted both parties in the transaction.

The U.S. Army auditor's office leased office space at 20 Kimball Ave. in South Burlington from Alan Palmer. Tony Blake of V/T commercial assisted the tenant, and Dave Kelly of Highpoint Realty assisted the landlord.

Benware and Co. announced the sale of all its McDonalds restaurants. The new owner of restaurants in Berlin, South Barre, Brandon and Middlebury is Coughlin Inc. of Rutland; the new owner of the remaining Benware restaurants is Napoli Group of Williston.

White & Associates Inc. of Burlington announced the signing of a long-term lease for 16,722 square feet with Fletcher Allen Health Care at 62 Tilley Drive off Vermont 116 in South Burlington. Dan Petherbridge of CBI announced that Apex Carpet Care, Deflooding and Restoration has been sold by Phil Decker, president of Jon De Inc., to Carl Schneider LLC. Petherbridge represented the seller and worked closely with the buyer.

Citizens Financial Group Inc., a subsidiary of The Royal Bank of Scotland Group PLC, has acquired Charter One Financial Inc. The transaction makes Citizens one of the 10 largest commercial bank holding companies in the country. Citizens' corporate headquarters are in Providence, R.I. Charter One's national bank charter will remain.

Contact Communications of Vermont has acquired all facilities and customers of Message Center of Burlington, Vermont. Contact Communications and Contact Plus are full-service paging, wireless and answering service centers. Retail locations include Burlington and Barre plus some in New York state. Operations and technical headquarters are in Williston. Paul Valois is president of Contact Communications.

Banknorth Group Inc. and TD Bank Financial Group announced an agreement for TDBFG to acquire 51 percent of the outstanding shares of Banknorth. The acquisition provides TD with majority interest in the company. Banknorth, with headquarters in Portland, Maine, operates divisions in New England and New York. TDBFG's headquarters are in Toronto.

Dan Petherbridge of CBI announced the sale of Park Terrace (Eldercare Community Care Homes Inc.) in Rutland to Viorel Duca of Sacramento, Calif. Petherbridge represented the sellers and worked closely with the buyer in coordinating the sale.

David White of David G. White & Associates Inc. of Burlington announced the sale of 8.36 acres of land in the northwest side of Berlin Mall Access Road in Berlin. White represented the seller, Daniel C. Lyons Trust. The buyer was J.M. & P.I. Management LLC.

Jed Dousevicz of V/T Commercial announced the sale of a three-story, mixed-use property at 24-26 Main St. in Winooski to Farrell Vermont LLC. The building has 10 apartments and ground-floor retail space. Dousevicz represented the seller, MMDI Management.

Trudell Consulting Engineers, a civil engineering firm in Williston, was purchased by Jeremy Matosky, P.E., from Richard Trudell, P.E, who founded the company in 1975. Matosky has been with the firm since 1999. Trudell continues as senior engineer. John Pitrowiski, P.E., remains vice president.

The managers of the Private Client Group of NL Capital Management have formed a new investment management firm, Maple Capital Management Inc. to acquire the assets of the Private Client Group from National Life. All the key employees of the group, including John Boland, Ramsey Ahmed and Gerald Milkowski, will stay with the firm.

Green Mountain Credit Union announced that Washington County U.S. Government Employees Credit Union has joined with GMCU. The merger gives Washington County members access to Green Mountain's products and services. The Washington County office at 85 State St., Room 305, in the Federal Building in Montpelier, is now available to serve members of both credit unions.

Charlie Poulin of Pomerleau Business Services was the selling agent, and Kevin D'Arcy of Pomerleau was the listing broker on the sale of Waterbury Beverage and the Vermont Liquor Agency in Waterbury to Quinland Farms Inc. The operation will be relocated to the Crossroads Beverage & Deli in Waterbury.

Tim Burke of David G. White & Associates Inc. of Burlington announced the sale of the Borden property on Dorset Street in Shelburne. The 66-acre site was bought by the Vermont Land Trust, which will place a conservation easement on the parcel allowing only agricultural use. Burke represented the purchaser; Nancy Jenkins of Prudential Realty Mart represented the seller.

Larry Williams and Doug Nedde of Redstone announced the sale and construction of a 3,800-square-foot, stand-alone office building for Back to Action, a physical therapy practice, at Catamount Park on Exchange Street in Middlebury. Peter Wisell of Redstone Construction was the project manager.

Tim Burke of David G. White & Associates Inc. announced the signing of a lease with Peebles Department Store for 31,000 square feet in the Highgate Commons Shopping Center in St. Albans. Burke was listing and leasing broker for the transaction. Peebles will open the store in November in a portion of the former Ames space. Earlier this year, Burke leased 26,000 square feet of the former Ames space to TJ Maxx, which opens this month.

Yves Bradley of Pomerleau Real Estate was the leasing agent representing the tenant, Lisa Spagnoli of A Little Glamour in the leasing of 600 square feet at 32 1/2 Church St. in Burlington. Spagnoli has closed her former store, Zia, in Massachusetts, and has relocated to Burlington.

Doug Nedde of Redstone was the leasing broker representing CTX Mortgage in the leasing of 3,600 square feet of office space at 62 Tilley Drive in South Burlington. Bob Bouchard of Pizzagalli was the listing broker representing Pizzagalli Construction, the project's developer and builder.

The new owners of Nectar's Restaurant & Lounge reopened its doors following renovations. Damon Brink, Sally Brink and Christopher Walsh bought the club last year from longtime owner Nectar Rorris. They intend to keep the club as a music venue that fosters local talent and introduces new musicians. The group also purchased Metronome, the live music venue located upstairs.

Casey Family Services has leased 10,500 square feet of office space at 46-50 Main St., Winooski. Jim Casey, the founder of UPS, helped start the nonprofit child welfare agency. Jed Dousevicz of V/T Commercial represented the landlord, Water Power LLC, and Steve Donohue of Pomerleau Real Estate represented the tenant. Construction is under way, with plans to open in November.

Vermont Originals, a Morrisville maker of hand-crafted hats, was purchased by Tad and Jane Washburn, a San Francisco couple seeking a company in Vermont. The company's wool hats are crafted by local knitters. Both the Washburns have experience in marketing, Jane as an executive with The Gap, and Tad as an executive at Young & Rubicam.

Cooperative Research Services Inc., an international bank consulting firm, has leased 3,276 square feet of office space for its Vermont operation at 600 Blair Park in Williston. CRS also has offices in New York and London. Tony Blake of V/T Commercial assisted CRS and the landlord, Triptik III Realty Partnership, in the transaction.

Linda I. Letourneau of Redstone was the listing and leasing broker representing the Bus Barn Bon Housing Limited Partnership and the Burlington Community Land Trust in the leasing of 1,183 square feet of retail space at 333 North Winooski Ave. in Burlington to Nhat Long Market.

David's Green River Furniture and Bedding has leased 1,570 square feet of retail space at the Jericho Plaza on Vermont 15 in Jericho from Karel Samson. This is the second location for the company, which has operated a store in the Morrisville area for 18 years. Charlie Poulin of Pomerleau represented the landlord.

Steve Donahue and John J. Rao III of Pomerleau Real Estate were the listing agents and Ed Helmer of Pomerleau represented the tenant on the leasing of 1,901 square feet of space at Maple Tree Place in Williston to Quiznos Sub Shop. This is the first Quiznos to open in Vermont.

Ownership of the John A. Russell Corp. of Rutland, doing business as Russell Construction Services and Russell Industrial Services, was transferred to the third generation. John A. Russell III and his wife, Heike, have bought the company from his parents, John and Martha Russell.

Mansfield Heliflight bought a 22,500-square-foot industrial building on 6.45 acres at 159 Catamount Drive in Milton from Relax R Corp. Bill Kiendl of V/T Commercial represented the landlord; Jeff Nick of J.L. Davis represented the tenant.

Micropack Bottled Water, with headquarters in Natick, Mass., bought the assets of Vermont Pure Springs Inc., a division of Vermont Pure Holdings Ltd. Isabean children's clothing store has signed a lease to open a new business at Maple Tree Place in Williston. The 1,000-square-foot business, to be located in the theater complex, is scheduled to open in the spring. Jed Dousevicz of V/T Commercial represented the tenant, and John J. Velocity Business Publishing Inc. of Middlebury has sold its premier product line, the Agile Manager Series, to Thomson Business and Professional Publishing of Cincinnati, Ohio. Velocity's president, Jeff Olson, founded the company with fellow Addison County residents Dave Folino and Guy Kimball in 1997. By Dec. 31, 2003, the company had sold more than 200,000 of its 23 core management books in the Agile Manager Series. The agreement allows Velocity to continue selling books through direct marketing channels, including its Web site, through 2004. Velocity plans a new line of books by the end of the year.

Jed Dousevicz of V/T Commercial announced that NetHarmonix leased 4,400 square feet of office space at 30 Main St., Burlington, from Investors Corp. of Vermont, where NetHarmonix, a national software and computer technology developer, will establish its headquarters. After eight years, Renee Reiner and Mike DeSanto, owners of The Book Rack & Children's Pages, are moving on. The 22-year-old independent bookstore at the Essex Outlets & Cinema has been bought by longtime staff members Elaine Sopchak and her husband, Stephen. The Sopchaks plan to introduce new items to the merchandise, including children's music and videos, additional greeting cards and more products and gifts for babies.

Mike Rainville, owner and president of Maple Landmark, announced the acquisition of the Educational Birthday Card line from Hampton Direct of Essex Junction. The cards are designed for children ages 3 to 10. Each card has 48 pages of specially designed, age-appropriate activities. The cards compare in price to traditional birthday cards and come with envelopes for easy mailing.

LNP Inc. has purchased a 24,000-square-foot industrial building on 2.15 acres at 121 Commerce St. in Williston from Robert Wessner and the Estate of Joseph Peeters. Rick Harrison of J.L. Davis Realty represented LNP in the purchase; Dave Kelly of HighPoint Realty was the listing agent. Wallboard Supply Co. LLC has entered into a lease agreement with LNP for the occupancy of the building. Wallboard is a supplier of drywall supplies, acoustical materials, firestop materials, insulation materials, framing systems and treated lumber. The company is based in Londonderry, N.H. This will be its first facility in the greater Burlington area. Rick Harrison of J.L. Davis Realty represented LNP; Hillary Boardman of J.L. Davis Realty assisted Wallboard Supply.

Maurice Brown purchased Hovencamp's Fitness Consulting in South Burlington and has changed the name to Your Personal Best. Brown was the head trainer at Hovencamp's for four years. The Biltmore Grill Restaurant at 115-119 St. Paul St. in Burlington (formerly Carbur's Restaurant) has been sold to Wind Dog Beer Co. Inc. The sale included a 6,l40-square-foot commercial property fully licensed for a 200-seat restaurant; all furnishings, fixtures and equipment associated with the restaurant. The new owners plan to renovate the property and re-open as American Flatbread Pizza, whose parent company is in Waitsfield, with other locations in Middlebury; Portland, Maine; Amesbury, Mass.; and North Conway, N.H. Bill Kiendl of V/T Commercial Real Estate assisted both buyer and seller, Gresham Properties Inc., in the transaction.

Fibonacci's Pizzeria in the Shelburne Shopping Park was sold to Bill Maglaris. Maglaris plans to make changes to the popular dining establishment. Tony Blake of V/T Commercial represented the sellers, Mark and Carrie MacKillop, and assisted both parties with the transaction.

The McKernon Group has purchased two large commercial structures in the old Brandon Training School now known as Park Village. The two buildings are the training school's old infirmary and hospital, which are 30,000 square feet and 50,000 square feet respectively. The buildings will be renovated to suit the needs of new tenants or owners.
